Only those two geniuses can talk about it and should talk about it because it would be a masterclass of a lesson for those who are trying to use sci-fi to talk about human nature. I seriously do not have the mental capacity to deconstruct what kind of mental gymnastics/acrobatics, planning, imagination, ideation, and sheer will power it must’ve taken to write the eight episodes. If I want one wish to be granted before this year ends and the real apocalypse happens (I sincerely hope the apocalypse doesn’t happen), apart from ending world hunger, capitalism, and this f*cking pandemic, it will be to be a fly (Not a literal one) on the proverbial wall while Odar and Friese discuss how they wrote Season 3 of Dark. Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese urge us to introspect through Dark’s version of nihilism and self-preservation. And the story revolves around Jonas trying to correct the events that began on June 21 in Winden and eventually led to the apocalypse. The cast features Louis Hoffmann, Lisa Vicari, Karoline Eichhorn, Jördis Triebel, Maja Schöne, Oliver Masucci, Andreas Pietschmann, Dietrich Hollinderbäumer, Lisa Kreuzer, Stephan Kampwirth, Moritz Jahn, Peter Benedict, Deborah Kaufmann, Paul Lux, Gina Stiebitz, and just so many more talented people. The casting is by Simone Bär and associate casting is by Alexandra Montag and I bow down to them for their eye for looking out for people who look similar to each other and can represent different ages of the same characters. The cinematography is by Nikolaus Summerer, editing by Simon Gstöttmayr, music by Ben Frost, production design by Udo Kramer, costume design by Anette Guther, and hair and make-up by Christina Wagner. The third season of Dark is directed by Baran bo Odar. Therefore, I’ll talk about what it made me feel and the labyrinth of thoughts it put me into. But that would be a disservice to the show itself. How can I explain how mind-fuc*ingly awesome it is without deconstructing it piece-by-piece? If it was up to me I’d just put the score here and let you ponder over it. So, as a fan myself, it is my duty to make sure your experience is wholesome. And I want to emphasise on the word ‘diligently’ because it requires a lot, emotionally and mentally, to follow this show. I want everyone to go into the final cycle of Winden’s fate as blind as I did and get the fruits of diligently following the series. Well, holy f*ck was that a season finale! I don’t know where to begin talking about Dark Season 3 without it. The showrunners, with the help of the immensely talented cast, strike a beautiful balance between pushing the boundaries of the science-fiction genre and exploring basic human nature in what likely is one of the most fulfilling final seasons in entertainment history. Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese’s Dark Season 3 picks up right after the events of Season 2 and goes to mind-blowing depths, lengths, and heights to analyse humanity’s instinctive drive for self-preservation.
